A "Bagger Vance Moment"…

I had what I call a “Bagger Vance” moment this morning while huffing and puffing through my morning jog.

It was the end of my “long stretch,” the block on my jogging path that is the longest and most challenging of my morning run.  As I came to the blessed street corner, I slowed to a brisk walk and continued my workout down the street.

He was sitting on his front porch watching me plod down the road.  I would have never know he was there, except for a brief comment that has lingered in my mind ever since.

“No one can do it for you, can they?” he asked.

It’s was true.  There’s no delegating the task of creating a healthy body.  There are many things, in fact, when it comes to creating a life that’s worth living, that no one can escape:  Take care of yourself.  Be mindful of your thoughts.  Choose to act from love instead of fear.  Exercise.

No one can do it for you, can they?  And would it be any fun if they did?

These are my “Bagger Vance” moments…  It’s when God peeks out from a shady front porch and tickles my imagination with a moment of profundity.  Watch for these sacred encounters and let them inspire you along your path.  After all, becoming aware of the magnificence around you is a choice.  And no one can do it for you…

P.S.  If you aren’t familiar with the “Bagger Vance” reference, check out one of the greatest movies of all times:
