Thank you for choosing to facilitate a What If Up House Party™! This site is designed to support you as you use your What If Up House Party™ DVD to create an event that will move you and your friends and colleagues to new levels of success.
Planning Tips:
How many people should attend?
Small groups generally work best, so aim for 5-10 people. If you’re working with a larger group, split people into smaller groups for brainstorming.
What do I need to do to prepare?
I always encourage snacks, food, and drinks when possible. Eating together is an ancient ritual which relaxes people, and helps us connect with each other. Brings some snacks, plan a potluck, or spring for dessert and coffee!
How long does it take?
The length of a session depends on the size of your group, and the amount of time you allow for discussion between rounds. Allow about 30 minutes for the video, plus 2.5 minutes per person in each group. (For example, if you have 5 people in your group, allow about 15 minutes for brainstorming). Plus buffer in some additional time for people to share insights and discuss the process. An hour to 90 minutes should be enough time to make sure everyone receives their time in the spotlight.
Using your What If Up House Party™ DVD
Here’s an overview of the sequencing on your House Party DVD. Make sure you are meeting in a room where you can play your DVD either on a television screen or through a computer. For your convenience, you can also print out this page so you have it handy for your event.
Track #1: Welcome and Overview
This segment introduces your group to the What If Up process and the basic philosophy behind What If Upping. At the end of this track, you will be invited to go around the room and allow people to introduce themselves.
Track #2: Introduction & Topic Selection
In this segment, your participants will receive information about how the circle is facilitated. They will be given time to identify a topic to share with the group, and you’ll be given a “sample” idea to What If Up together to make sure everyone is clear on how the process works.Track #3: The Rules
Here, we go through the foundational rules for “What If Upping.” You’ll also find these rules printed on the cover of your DVD, for easy reference. As the facilitator, it is important that you remind people of the rules any time you get off track. The process is very intentional, and it’s important that each 2.5 minute session adhere to the guidelines laid out in this section. After reviewing The Rules, you will be guided to begin your What If Up session.
Track #4: Celebration & Next Steps
Play this final track after you complete your circle. It gives some ideas for “next steps” and provides closure on the exercises you have completed together. Congratulations! You’ve facilitated a successful House Party!
