Permission to “Go There”
I was attending a neighborhood holiday party last week and I shared with a woman down the street the name of my new book: What If It All Goes RIGHT?
She laughed and said, “Oh, I don’t want to go there!”
Really??? I was a bit stunned by her response. “You don’t want to go there?” I asked incredulously. You don’t want to imagine what it would look like if things went right???
“Oh, no!” she laughed, then changed the subject. It was as if it would be too much to fathom. Overwhelming perhaps to mentally step into? I’ve been trying to make sense of it ever since.
So here’s a few tips to make accessing your imagination a safe and exhilarating journey:
1) Be okay with where you are before you create the vision. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by your vision if you are beating yourself up for not being there already. Or for taking the “scenic route.” The fact that your vision is not yet your reality is not a sign of personal failure. It’s a sign that you have the imagination and drive to see a bigger picture.
Your vision is there to inspire you. Celebrate where you are, and let the journey be fun!
2) The most inspiring visions are often so big, that we never get there. Let that be ok. Imagine if Martin Luther King dreamed a smaller dream because he didn’t think it would be possible in his lifetime. Give yourself permission to “go there.”
3) If you begin to feel a bit overwhelmed by the vision you have created, use that same quality of imagination to “chunk it down” into more “comfortable” thoughts. What if you don’t have to do it all today? What if you don’t have to do this alone? What if you’ll know when the time is right to take that next step? What if you deliberately choose a pace that feels right to you?
When your thoughts become a barrier to taking inspired action, it’s time to rethink. Your imagination is right there to pop out the ideas. Trust your guidance and allow yourself the space to let it be.
You can learn about how these pieces work together in my video series (up for a limited time!) designed to help you consciously create your new year…
What if you gave yourself total permission to let your creative juices flow and create a vision for the new year that fills your heart and soul with love and possibility? What if we go there together??

Mindy, what you wrote above is soooo true–WOW!! Thank you for making the process so clear. I feel that many of us are afraid to dream big because deep down inside we are truly afraid we won’t make it or that we are not worthy to receive the gift of our dream. We are so afraid of not having what it takes to accomplish our dreams.that we stop the creative process within us.
We must be like babies–they are not afraid to try something new because they have no fear of failure because they don’t know what failure is,. they just get up and do it. May be be blessed with no fear of the dreams in our hearts and may we all be like children and “just do it”. Thank you Mindy for being my shining star !!
